Natasha Gilmore

Natasha Gilmore is the founder and Artistic Director of Barrowland Ballet, one of Scotland’s leading contemporary dance companies. An internationally respected choreographer for dance, theatre and film, Natasha work has gained critical international acclaim and regularly tours worldwide.

Awards include Best Production for Children and Young People at the CATS for The Gift. Her immersive video installation Family Portrait won ‘Best of the Fest’ Bobby award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Natasha was the UK nomination for the ASSITEJ Award for Excellence 2017 for her work for young audiences including Little Red, Whiteout, Tiger Tale and Poggle. Her dance films are screened at numerous prestigious film festivals worldwide receiving awards from San Francisco Indie Short Festival, Denton Black Film Festival, Cinevox Dance Film Festival and Knowbox Festival. 

Most recently Natasha has been recognised for her developing practice in contemporary dance work created with and for neuro-diverse audiences with three sensory theatre works Playful Tiger, The Unexpected Gift and Poggle and Me. Her film Strings won the Humanity Award at Utah Dance Film Festival.

Natasha has worked as a choreographer for theatre productions, including the National Theatre of Scotland’s, Glasgow Girls and Vox Motus’ Bright Black. As a dancer, Natasha worked with companies including Rose’s Thoughts, Protein Dance and Jasmin Vardimon. Natasha’s early training was as a junior associate of The Royal Ballet School, Bush Davies and Laban. Her most recent production, Chunky Jewellery, co-created with Jude Williams and Ben Duke (Lost Dog Dance), saw her first return to dancing on stage in 12 years.
