Chunky Jewellery announces UK and international tour following acclaimed run
Barrowland Ballet is delighted to announce that Chunky Jewellery will tour across the UK and internationally following a hugely positive response to its performances in 2025 at Cumbernauld Theatre, Tramway Glasgow, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Assembly.
Created by Jude Williams and Natasha Gilmore in collaboration with Ben Duke (Olivier Award-nominated, Lost Dog), Chunky Jewellery has been praised for its honesty, emotional depth, and distinctive blend of theatre, dance, comedy and music.
Two friends, one year, two births, a death, 18 bursts of laughter, 34,000 tears (each), and one piece of chunky jewellery.
It was a year to forget, but instead Natasha and Jude co-created an epic autobiographical work that explores what it means to keep going when life fractures. Combining a potent patchwork of theatre, dance, comedy, and self-penned and borrowed songs, Chunky Jewellery tells the story of two single mothers navigating life, death and everything in between.
An honest and raw account of sisterhood and solidarity in grief, survival with courage and resilience, the work traces how two artists rebuild meaning from fragments of their lives, their dreams, and their children’s musical instruments.
Hailed as “Relatable and moving - a winning piece of autobiographical dance-theatre.” ★★★★ (The Times), the work has been recognised for its unflinching humanity and its life-affirming portrayal of care, loss, and connection.
These uncompromising and formidable performers deliver a deeply personal yet widely resonant piece of theatre that continues to connect with audiences across generations and lived experiences.
