Audition Notice: Male and Female Contemporary Dancers /

BARROWLAND BALLET REQUIRES VERSATILE AND HIGHLY SKILLED PROFESSIONAL DANCERS

Barrowland Ballet seek highly skilled contemporary dancers with good acting and improvisation skills – 1 male identifying dancer for Christmas run in Scotland 2023 and 1 female identifying dancer for international touring in 2024.

Audition Dates: Central Glasgow, Sunday 12th November 2023, 11am – 1.30pm with call backs 2.30pm – 6pm

Deadline for applications:  9am, Tuesday 7th November 2023

We are looking for versatile contemporary dance artists confident with a theatrical character role, comfortable learning existing work, confident improvisors and an interest in sensory performance work, neuro diverse audiences and performing with and for children with complex needs.

Male Role: This theatrical role was originally created by a Brazilian and includes singing, Capoeria /acrobatic elements and influences of Samba. We are seeking a highly skilled male dancer to take on the role, performing in CATS award winning The Gift – an early years Christmas show for families – and The Unexpected Gift,  a sensory theatre adaptation for children with complex needs such as autism. Awarded Best Production for Children and Young People at the Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) 2023.

  • 23rd Nov – 24th Dec 2023           Performances, Aberdeen

 

Female Role: Barrowland Ballet seek a highly skilled, youthful, female identifying contemporary dancer with good acting skills and precise technique for touring of internationally acclaimed productions Tiger (adult), Tiger Tale (for ages 7+) and Playful Tiger (for 8 young people with complex needs such as autism aged 7-15 years); playing the daughter role. Playful Tiger is highly interactive with the young people invited to enter the performance space to dance and play.

Key Dates (to apply you must be available for the following dates)

  • 18th – 31st Mar 2024:                    Rehearsals / training in Glasgow, Scotland
  • 1st – 14th April 2024:                      The Lincoln Centre, NYC
  • 15th Apr – 4th May 2024:              Possible extension US Tour
  • 30th Oct – 10th Nov 2024:            ASSITEJ Estonia

With possible future touring 2025 onwards.

Fee and Freelance Contract:

£600/week plus travel, accommodation and per diems. (Based on ITC/equity guidance rates 2023/4 to be adjusted for 2024/5 where applicable). Barrowland Ballet contracts performers in line with ITC / Equity Agreements for best practice. This is a freelance based contract with the opportunity for future touring. Please note: Performers must be eligible to work in the UK.
